MONTHLY REMINDER

Five quick reminders before the first hard freeze:

Disconnect garden hoses and shut off the inside valves to your outside faucets.
Change your furnace filter and test your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detectors.
Clean the gutters once the leaves are down, as clogged gutters are how ice dams start.
Locate your main water shutoff now, not during an emergency. If a pipe ever bursts, you'll want to know exactly where to shut it off.
Have a vacant unit or you'll be out of town over the winter? Keep the heat at 55° or higher, and open cabinet doors where you have pipes on an exterior wall so warmer air can reach them.
